The Buckeye Water Conservation and Drainage District (BWCDD) has a rich history that dates back to the 1880s, starting with the formation of the Buckeye Canal District. Over the years, as the local population expanded, the district adapted by constructing dams and implementing changes to safeguard the water rights of the Buckeye area. The transformation from a canal district to the BWCDD in 1907, marked a significant evolution in water management and conservation efforts. Today, the BWCDD continues to ensure that water resources are managed effectively, reflecting a commitment to sustainability and foresight. Notably, the current water usage per capita in Buckeye is lower than it was decades ago, demonstrating the success of these conservation strategies. Additionally, ongoing legislative efforts aim to further reinforce the protection of Buckeye's water resources, ensuring that they remain secure for the enjoyment and use of future generations. |
