Last Week

The inaugural meeting of the Rotary year commenced with David Johnson presiding as Chair of the Day.

The session featured a distinguished speaker, Colonel Gabe Szody, Commander of the US Army 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), who addressed the assembly from Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Colonel Szody provided a comprehensive overview of global adversaries, categorizing them from peer and secondary competitors to irrational terrorist factions. He emphasized the enduring nature of terrorist ideologies and underscored the nation's strategy to thwart their territorial ambitions.

Colonel Szody highlighted the evolving landscape of modern warfare, where technological advancements have leveled the playing field between state and non-state entities, prompting significant shifts in the Department of Defense's combat strategies. He also shed light on the recent surge in hostilities in the Middle East, noting that American forces have sustained over 200 attacks following the Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel from Gaza.
In addition to his geopolitical insights, Colonel Szody shared his leadership philosophy and engaged in a dynamic question-and-answer session with the attendees, reflecting his commitment to open dialogue and exchange of ideas.
