Larry Cervarich: The Compassionate Force Behind Homeless Youth Connection and Meals of Joy

Larry Cervarich, a member of the Rotary Club of Verrado and resident of Goodyear, Arizona, has dedicated his “retired” life to making a difference in the lives of vulnerable populations. Last week Larry was our speaker.   His journey began with the founding of Homeless Youth Connection (HYC) in 2009. This nonprofit organization serves homeless teens across Maricopa County, providing them with essential resources and support. Larry’s commitment to HYC led him to connect with various organizations and businesses that shared his passion for helping others.

However, Larry’s compassion didn’t stop there. In 2014, he embarked on another labor-of-love: Meals of Joy. This nonprofit focuses on feeding low-income seniors in the southwest valley of Arizona. Larry’s background in the food service industry, including owning restaurants and working with commercial bakeries and food trucks, uniquely positioned him to address the nutritional needs of seniors.  Larry’s vision for Meals of Joy is clear: to provide seniors with fresh, tasty, home-delivered lunches. He emphasizes quality, flavor, and variety, ensuring that older adults enjoy every meal. Unlike frozen options, Meals of Joy’s dishes arrive hot and ready to eat. Larry’s unwavering commitment to this mission ensures that no senior ever has to choose between eating and meeting other basic needs. Volunteers deliver meals five days a week, striving to eliminate hunger among seniors. Larry’s dedication to both Homeless Youth Connection and Meals of Joy exemplifies the power of compassion and community. Through his efforts, countless lives have been touched, nourished, and uplifted.

Larry Cervarich’s legacy extends beyond organizational success; it lies in the hearts of those he serves. His impact reverberates through the lives of homeless teens finding hope and seniors savoring each meal. Larry’s story reminds us that one person’s compassion can create a ripple effect, transforming communities and fostering a brighter future for all.
