All Faith Community Services - What the Rotary Support Has Meant

Cassie Wilkins is the Founder and Executive Director of All Faith Community Services which includes the All Faith Food Bank, a St. Mary's affiliated food bank located in Buckeye.  The motto of AFCS is a hand up, not a hand out.  Cassie will report to us on the application of the grant made by the Rotary Club of Verrado last spring. We will also be holding a food drive and presenting Cassie with our donations at this meeting.  Please come to the meeting with donations for the food bank. This is a critical time for them as they approach the increased needs during the holidays.  Recommened donations include peanut butter, canned vegetables, canned fruit, canned soup, canned protein, rice and beans, cereal and pasta.

The Rotary Club of Verrado's meeting on November 12, 2024, was a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by those who have served in the military. With Veterans Day just having passed, the club's focus on honoring its veteran members was both timely and significant. Dr. David Faragher's introduction of Brigadier General George Cannelos as the master of ceremonies set the stage for a day of reflection and appreciation. The statistics shared by General Cannelos highlighted the reality faced by many veterans in Arizona, drawing attention to the ongoing struggles, including poverty and homelessness, that affect a significant portion of these brave individuals.

The transition from Armistice Day to Veterans Day marked a shift in focus from the end of World War I to a broader recognition of all veterans, and the Rotary Club's support of US Vets underscores the community's commitment to aiding those who have served. The personal stories shared by the club's eight veterans provided a human element to the statistics, offering a glimpse into the diverse experiences of military service and the unifying thread of courage and duty that binds all service members.

General Cannelos's recounting of his military career, from flying reconnaissance missions over Vietnam to commanding the Alaska Air National Guard, served as a testament to the dynamic and often perilous nature of military life. His story, along with those of the other veterans, not only honored their service but also educated and inspired the attendees. The Rotary Club of Verrado is committed to ensure that the contributions of veterans are not forgotten and that their needs are addressed with the same commitment they have shown to their country. We celebrate our veterans!

Welcome to Verrado Rotary Ty Doolittle

President Holly welcomed our newest member, Ty Doolittle.  Ty was born in Vancouver BC and moved to the US when he was eight years old.  He is a Marine, having served honorably for a decade. He later become a police officer in Vancouver, BC, where he was involved in gang suppression.  He retired after 21 years of service. Ty credits his wife Karen for helping him make the often-difficult transition from public safety (or military service) to civilian life.  Ty founded Serving First Responders, a nonprofit organization which assists retiring public safety and veterans in making the transition to civilian life.
