Last Week at Rotary Our speaker last week was Deputy Buckeye City Manager and Director of Economic Development David Roderique. Mr. Roderique provided us a detailed update on economic development in Buckeye, highlighting the largest projects. He said that much of the retail development in the past few years has concentrated on the Watson Road corridor, but there is a major shift going around Vererado Way and Interstate 10. The four corners on this area will feature two hospitals, a Costco anchored center, and a large retail development brought to us by Vestar, the developers of Tempe Marketplace and Desert Ridge. Our sleepy little exit of Interstate 10 is going to look very different in the next few years. Next time you see Todd or Mayor Meck, pleasee thank them for continuing to bring us great programs. President Cheryl spoke about the upcoming Compassion Connect Project in Buckeye (February 25) and mentioned that a sign up sheet for volunteers was circulating and that the club's board had authorized funding support. We acknowledged the addition of our newest member, Barb McCoy, a transfer from the Rotary Club of Yuma who will be formally introduced at an upcoming meeting. Welcome Barb! After the meeting, the scholarship committee met to discuss the granting of scholarships for this year. The committee decided the scholarships would focus on those seeking vocational training in the healthcare sector. Contact Chairman Don Mellon if you would like to be involved or with questions. |
