President Mike and Candie Halberg welcome Margaret (Margie) Cossette.  

 
Margie comes to us from New Hampshire. Her classification is Corporate Banking and she was sponsored by Todd Halberg.  Margie is the mother of Major Pete Cossette, an Air Force Pilot Instructor who is married to Todd and Candie's daughter.  She lives in Verrado.

 

 

We gathered at Chez Bredow on Friday night, June 9.  We enjoyed a beautiful late spring evening, the Bredow's beautiful backyard, great food and friends.  Thank you to Doug and Claudia for inviting us into your home. 

 

 

On Friday morning, June 9, we were the guests of Kevin Barko at the Kerr Dairy farm in west Buckeye.  We were met by Wes Kerr, a 4th generation diaryman, who provided us a fascinating story about the modern diary industry.  Did you know a dairy has its own nutritionist?  Yes, every week week a nutritionist who expert in dairy cattle formulates the cow's diet.  Did you know that Arizona dairy cows are some of the most productive in the United States, rivalled only by our neighbor New Mexico?  This in spite of a 20% loss of production during the summer months.  Did you know that providing fans and shade dramatically improved the milk production of cows during the summer months?  Finally, contrary to common myth there are no antibiotics allowed in cows milk delivered for human consumption.  Mr Kerr also showed us the milking barn, the barn where new calves live until they are about 70 days old and the feed mixing area.  A very fascinating tour and insight into modern farming practices.  Thank you Kevin Barko for making this possible.  

In accordance with the bylaws of the Verrado Rotary Foundation, 7 directors are elected annually by the membership of the Rotary Club of Verrado.  Nominations can be submitted by the Verrado Foundation Board, the Club's board and by members of the Club.  Doug Bredow as President of the Verrado Rotary Foundation submitted nominations for 7 members on behalf of the Foundation.  No nominations were made by club members or by the Club's board.  The following Rotarians were nominated:  Doug Bredow, Tom Leyda, Robin Polk, Dick Crichton, Todd Halberg, David Johnson and David Lehman.  Upon motion duly made and seconded the nominees were elected as directors of the Verrado Rotary Foundation by voice vote to serve for the next Rotary fiscal year.
