West Valley development...some new neighbors!
West Valley development...some new neighbors!

Heath Melton was named the company's President of the Phoenix Region in 2021.  Mr. Melton, a Phoenix native and senior leader who has been with The Howard Hughes Corporation since 2015, is leading the development of Teravalis, a 37,000-acre master planned community on the west side of our White Tanks.  Formerly known as Douglas Ranch, Teravalis will transform the Phoenix region, with the anticipated addition of 100,000 homes, 300,000 residents, and 55 million square feet of commercial development."We are fortunate to have Heath's leadership and experience at the helm of our extraordinary new master planned community of Teravalis," said David O'Reilly, CEO of The Howard Hughes Corporation. "Heath has been critical in The Howard Hughes Corporation's implementation of innovative technology and environmental design. He has helped drive the growth and success of our communities in the Texas region, and is now the ideal leader to oversee the emergence of Phoenix's West Valley as a dynamic regional hub."Heath has expressed his delight at returning to Phoenix to work with the city of Buckeye, the state of Arizona, and partners at JDM and El Dorado to ensure the successful growth of Teravalis. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, with a Bachelor of Science in business management and systems engineering. He served in the U.S. Army as a field artillery officer for five years, earning an Army Commendation Medal with Valor Device and Bronze Star.

All Faith Community Services Needs Your Help

Our speaker last week was Cassie Wilkins, Executive Director of All Faith Community Services.   All Faith is affiliated with St. Mary’s Foodbank in Phoenix, the first foodbank on the country.  Cassie passed out flyers for their Thanksgiving Food drive, “Sharing Thanksgiving 2023” and the Dec 4 “A Christmas Cause 2023”.

All Faith is currently under a great deal of stress in trying to meet the needs of our area, as the only food bank in Buckeye or Goodyear.  She attributed this to several factors:

Inflation in the cost of goods and staff.
Higher gas prices for delivery vehicles
The difficulty of hiring staff in the inflated wage market
The influx of migrants which are straining the capacity of All Faiths

She asked that we consider volunteering or making a donation of money or food. The Club is engaged in a food drive to benefit All Faith this month.  Please bring your donations to a meeting.  Here is a list of items they are requesting for the Thanksgiving season:

  • Instant Potatoes
  • Jarred or Canned Gravy
  • Canned Green Beans/Corn/Yams
  • Boxed stuffing
  • Boxed desserts (cookie mix, cake mix, pie filling)

If you wish, you can order these things online at Amazon and have it shipped to All Faith.  214 S. 5th Street, Buckeye 85326.

Here is a photo of my first load.  Take a picture of your donation and send to me for future bulletins.  mike.hosking@outlook.com

Your CLUB Needs Your Help - 4th Annual Rotary Club of Verrado Top Golf Fundraiser

Your club needs you to help make this event a success.  Our registrations this year are down so far, probably due to the economy and the competition we have for fundraising. Here are ways you can contribute to the success of YOUR fundraiser this year.  Every Rotarian should seriously consider participating in some way.  Please do what you can.

SIGN UP for the TOP GOLF competition. Ask your friends to be on your team.  You don't have to be a golfer to have fun and more people means more fun and more folks interested on our auction and raffle.  Players must sign up by Monday, October 23.

BUY RAFFLE TICKETS.  Doug will have raffle tickets for sale at the meeting on October 24.  DO YOUR PART!

DONATE A GIFT BASKET.  If you don't want to do it yourself, donate the money and someone will do it for you.

The time to ACT is now.

Our Top Golf Fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, October 28, from 10 am to 1 pm at the Top Golf Facility in Glendale.  You can click HERE to go to the event site and purchase tickets and look over auction items.  Or from a mobile device scan this code

All Rotary members are encouraged to participate in this event by attending, donating a gift basket, making a donation, buying raffle tickets or purchasing auction items.

Please consider donating a gift basket to the event.  Although there are no specific limits, baskets should be in the $50 to $100 value range.  If you need help with putting together a basket, Holly Nott and Kathy Gorchesky have volunteered to help out with ideas, shopping and packaging, or any combination of the three.  Contact them. Please try to have your baskets delivered to Doug's house or to a Rotary meeting by October 20.

If you have any questions please contact Doug Bredow.
