Last Weekfrom left, Lauren Madden, Trish Plum and President Holly A Place for Hannah (APFH) was the subject of last week's meeting. APFH is dedicated to supporting women transitioning from prison back into society. The Vice President and Founder, Trish Plum, and President Lauren Madden shared several anecdotes, including their compelling personal stories. They explained that APFH focuses on providing essential counseling, organizing events, and initiating projects within prisons to aid in rehabilitation. The statistics are sobering: each year, 1.9 million individuals are released from incarceration, and a staggering 80% require immediate housing. In Arizona alone, 2,200 women re-enter society annually, facing numerous challenges, including the need for stable housing, which is a critical factor in preventing recidivism. Poverty remains the strongest predictor of a return to prison, and with 60% of these women having children waiting at home, the stakes are incredibly high. APFH's initiative to provide housing for 90 days, along with necessities such as hygiene products, clothing, and identification, is vital. Their efforts extend to offering a rental facility for a year, significantly aiding in the reintegration process. The organization's needs are clear: financial support, gift cards, and basic supplies like cleaning products and toilet paper are essential to continue their impactful work. |
