Meals of Joy update
Meals of Joy update

Larry Cervarich was born in Portland, Oregon, is married, and he and his wife have had two sons.  He attended Portland State University, and later served in the US Air Force.

Larry has an interesting, if not outright fun career history.  He worked for a food vending service from 1964-1977, and went on to own two mobile catering companies, each with over 20 employees.  Then he got into installing pool tables, juke boxes, and video games for the next 4 years. He then owned a commercial and retail bakery with 7 delivery vehicles…and it’s own 24/7 restaurant.  His bakery delivered pastries and cakes to Southwest Washington and downtown Portland.

He moved to Arizona in 2006, where he considered himself to be semi-retired.  He became the busiest semi-retired person we know, as he soon founded the Homeless Youth Connection, Meals of Joy, and the Just Ask Outreach.  And we’re delighted to have Larry with us April 9th to tell us about it!

The Verrado Rotary Foundation board meeting scheduled for April 8, 2024, has been rescheduled to April 15, 2024.

Last Week at Rotary

Last week's meeting was a special day for Verrado Rotary.  We honored our charter members Jackie and Verlyne Meck, two members who are beloved icons of Verrado Rotary, Buckeye and the State of Arizona.  The Meck's rich history of over 80 years living in Buckeye, Arizona was aptly described by their son, Jackie Meck, Jr. along with an enjoyable showcase of photos from their lives.  The Meck's were also joined by their daughter Sara and grandson Jackson.  Also joining us to celebrate the Meck's was Buckeye Mayor Eric Orsborn and his wife, Buckeye's First Lady, Tina, Assistant City Manager, Verrado Rotary member and former Chief of Police Larry Hall, Chief of Police Bob Sanders and Verrado Rotary member and Chief of the Buckeye Fire Department, Jake Rhoades. The club presented the Meck's a framed portrait, pictured below. If you missed this program, you missed a wonderful presentation.
