Economic Development in Buckeye - Who is Coming to Our Fair City
Economic Development in Buckeye - Who is Coming to Our Fair City

Suzanne (Susie) Boyles serves as the Economic Development Director for the City of Buckeye, Arizona. Additionally, she is a board member of the Arizona Association for Economic Development, an ambassador for the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, and a Young Talent Advisor for the Center for the Future of Arizona. She holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Business from Western New Mexico University. Among her achievements is the Buckeye Healthcare Initiative, which aimed to identify healthcare gaps and development opportunities in the city. This initiative successfully attracted Abrazo Health and Banner Health to commit to building healthcare campuses in Buckeye, including two new acute care hospitals, medical office buildings, and other healthcare services. Her tenure at the City of Buckeye has been marked by success in attracting both large and small businesses offering high-paying jobs. She attributes her success to her mother, who was a strong role model. Susie attended college on a volleyball scholarship. In 2022, she was recognized as one of the Most Influential Women in Arizona by Arizona Business and Arizona RE Magazine (AZBigMedia), and in 2023, she was featured in the list of People and Projects to Know in Commercial Real Estate by AZBigMedia.

Last Week

Rotary resumes meeting after a holiday break.  Welcome back to a packed house!
President Holly thanks our speaker, Christine Larsen for her presentation about the Buckeye Valley Museum and the Buckeye Library.  Stay tuned for a field trip to the museum later this year.
President Holly says "Welcome to the Club" to Marissa Rawson.

Growing up in Orange County, California, Marissa Rawson is the eldest of two children. As a young girl, she would often visit model homes with her grandparents, imagining herself living in those beautifully staged rooms.

Little did she know, it was just a pastime for her grandparents.  After graduating high school, Marissa became a corporate trainer for the Cheesecake Factory, traveling across the United States to open new restaurants. In 2007, she opened the now-closed Grand Lux Cafe in Scottsdale Fashion Square, marking the beginning of her love affair with the Valley of the Sun.

Over 13 years ago, Marissa met Alan, and after his retirement, they had a brief stay in Las Cruces, New Mexico. During their time there, they frequently traveled to California, always stopping in Goodyear for a cup of coffee. Nine years ago, Marissa and Alan moved to Arizona, falling in love with the community of Verrado, where they built their home.

For over five years, Marissa has been actively selling real estate in Verrado and Victory, achieving the HomeSmart Elite Group Diamond level for the last three years. When not immersed in work, she enjoys giving back to her community. Together with Alan, she founded the Patriot's Day 9/11 Memorial and Climb, now an annual event in Verrado. Additionally, she serves as the Co-Chair of the We Heart Christmas Tour.

Marissa is excited to join a group of like-minded individuals and continue contributing to her community.

Mayor Jackie Meck announces the first Buckeye Memory Cafe, this Tuesday, January 14 and the 2nd Tuesday of every month thereafter.  The Dementia Friendly Buckeye sponsored program provides support to caregivers and loved ones living with dementia.  The Cafe provides loved ones the opportunity to participate in meaningful activities and caregivers to have some respite and to connect with others who can be supportive.  All are welcome. There is no cost.  Thank you to Mayor Jackie and Rhonda Boyles for launching Dementia Friendly Buckeye!
Well Christmas may be over the spirit of giving is still alive.  Your club purchased and donated this picnic table at "Treehouse Park" or what we call Rotary Park.  Thank you to Mike Nott for doing all the hard work in assembling and placing this table.  Go buy and take a peak. Ridge Road south from Acacia. The park is on the left before you go around the corner.
