Former Mayor Meck: City of Buckeye
Water: The Hot Topic in our West Valley

Former Mayor Jackie Meck has served as the youngest, oldest, and longest serving Mayor in the  history of the city of Buckeye.  As Mayor, Meck spearheaded efforts to improve water and sewer lines throughout the city and secure long-term water to sustain Buckeye’s growth.  He pushed to improve West Valley education through attracting a campus each for Estrella Mountain Community College and West-MEC career and technical education campus.  He has also worked tirelessly to attract and retain businesses and jobs within our city.

Following his retirement as the Mayor of Buckeye, Jackie was appointed by Governor Doug Ducey to the Arizona State Transportation Board, representing Maricopa County.  Jackie is no stranger to boards…or councils…or advisory or leadership committees.  The list of his contribution of time and expertise for Buckeye, the West Valley, and Arizona documents that he has served or is serving in over four dozen positions.

Jackie retired as General Manager of the Buckeye Water Conservation and Drainage District, while his wife Verlyne retired as librarian of Buckeye Union High School after 25 years of service.  She went on to author three books on the history and humor of Buckeye…all available on Amazon!  Both Jackie and Verlyne were exceptional athletes (Jackie in football and baseball…Verlyne in tennis).  Both are founding members of the Rotary Club of Verrado, and they have lived in Buckeye their entire lives, where they’ve raised three children and are the proud grandparents of Gracie, William, Audrey and Jackson.
